FFOA is the recognised representative of retiree interests in formal relations with management of FAO, ICCROM, IFAD and WFP. FFOA is also an active member of the global Federation of Associations of Former International Civil Servants (FAFICS), which represents retirees at the UN system level, and on the UN Joint Staff Pension Fund, including various related committees.
FFOA works on behalf of its members as a whole to improve retirement and other benefits, and to protect their interests. It also responds to individual requests from members for assistance, guidance or referral on a broad range of issues associated with retirement and ageing in general. FFOA keeps members informed on developments in areas of concern via a periodic newsletter, ad hoc information bulletins, and this website.
FFOA promotes contact and social and intellectual exchange among its members through a wide range of cultural and social activities. Colleagues and friends in the Rome area gather at FAO on the first Wednesday of each month for “Coffee Morning” – drop in if you are in the neighbourhood. And contact friends and former colleagues from the Member Contacts list.
After a career of service, former UN staff maintain an active interest in development issues and continue to support the objectives of our former employers. FFOA shares updates with members on key activities and achievements across the UN system.
